Spectacular Triple Bill Opening for VIAF 20th Anniversary

Victoria International Arts Festival is celebrating its 20th edition in 2017. Since 1998, it has progressed and developed beyond the wildest dreams of its organisers, and despite heavy odds it has managed to maintain an uninterrupted run for 20 years.

For this august celebration, the Artistic Director of VIAF, Prof. Joseph Vella, together with his committee Rev. George Joseph Frendo (Assistant Artistic Director), Maria Frendo (Secretary), and Dennis Xuereb (Financial Controller) are putting together a programme that will bring together more than 600 performers from all over the world. A run of 40 concerts/artistic events, together with other fringe activities, is the final stages of planning, with a triple bill opening that is nothing short of spectacular.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Joseph Vella, will initiate the proceedings on Tuesday 6 June, followed on Wednesday 7 June by arguably the best choir in the world, the Pontificia Cappella Sistina under the direction of Mgr Massimo Palombella.  On Thursday 8 June, the University of Delaware Choir, directed by Paul Head, will then give a choral concert to round up a palpitating introduction to what promises to be a unique Festival in 2017.

VIAF is supported by the Gozo Cultural Support Programme of Arts Council Malta in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo.
